Cleveland Browns guard Eric Steinbach has bone fragment removed, full recovery expected

"Eric is 100 percent pain-free," says his agent. "There was no other structural damage."

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The agent for Eric Steinbach, Jack Bechta, said Wednesday that Steinbach's back surgery was successful and that doctors expect a full recovery.

"The operation went really well,'' Bechta said in an email. "There was a loose, unattached bone fragment wedge on the spinal cord nerves. It was removed and the nerves laid back down in their track and Eric is 100 percent pain-free. There was no other structural damage to the nerves nor did they have to touch any of the disk.''

Steinbach, who's started the past four seasons for the Browns, was placed on injured reserve Tuesday for the season.

"The incident is very frustrating for Eric because he trained harder this off-season than any season prior. He really feels the line is ready to make a major improvement and still feels they will with the guys who are there now.''

Steinbach will be replaced in the short-term by fifth-round pick Jason Pinkston.
