Wadin' in: Davis got roughed up by the Royals July 22 in his first start off the DL and has won his next two, though not with style points. In three starts, he is 1-1, 3.26 vs. K.C.

Felipe's flips: Paulino has been better as a starter for the Royals (1-4, 3.78) than a reliever for the Rockies (0-4, 7.36) or a swingman for the Astros (6-21, 5.83). He lost to the Rays on July 24.

Travel plans of the day

The Rays are going old-school in taking a train from New York to Boston after Sunday's game, and to get in the proper mind-set manager Joe Maddon has requested they all wear 1950s-style hats. "We're paying respect to the '55 Dodgers and their train traveling by wearing a fedora," he said. "It'll be fun walking in there, and if guys want to 'pimp' it up and wear the suit with the hat, I'm cool with that." Even better, a real '55 Dodger, senior adviser Don Zimmer, is planning to make the trip.

Quote of the day

"That was a mouthful it looked like."

Casey Kotchman, on the large wad of gum OF Justin Ruggiano and LHP David Price left on home plate after his walkoff homer Monday.
