In Brief

EAST YORKS: A 13-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital after a collision with a motorbike.

The boy was with two friends on the A166 in Stamford Bridge on Saturday when the accident happened.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance airlifted him to Leeds General Infirmary where he was said to be in a "serious, but stable" condition. The crash closed the A166 and traffic was diverted.

A police spokesman said the boy's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The 35-year-old man on the bike, who is from Driffield, was thrown from his machine. He was taken to York Hospital with minor injuries, a police spokesman said.

The road was closed following the crash at 12.45pm on Saturday while police examined the scene. Any witnesses are asked to call PC Martin Usher on 0845 6060247.

EAST YORKS: A new branch of the Inland Waterways Association will now oversee rivers and canals in North and East Yorkshire.

The North Riding Branch, which is the first new branch to be set up in ten years, will cover waterways from Goole in the east, Ripon in the west and north as far as Newcastle.

The organisation, chaired by Tony Martin, will hold a meeting on April 1 at 7.30pm at St Olave's Church Hall, Marygate Lane, York.

Present will be Clive Henderson, the national chairman of the IWA, Jon Horsfall, general manager of British Waterways and the civic party.

The group looks after the interests of anyone concerned with the wellbeing and future of the waterways, such as boat owners, canoeists, bird watchers, fishermen, walkers and cyclists.
