TV appearance set to fill hotel's beds

AN EAST Yorkshire hotel has seen a boost in trade after appearing on TV.

The owners of the Swallow Hotel in Bridlington say they are set for a busy spring season after featuring in Channel 4's Four In A Bed.

Partners Paul Sharpe and Lou Sittler took part in the show that sees four pairs of B&B owners take turns as hosts to decide which one provides the best accommodation.

Since the programme first aired in December, the hotel's website has had about 30,000 hits and the episode was repeated again last Sunday.

Paul said the programme had brought good publicity to both the 60-a-night hotel and the seaside town.

He said: "We've had people call because they had seen us on the show.

"We're getting a lot more business this year than last year even with the recession.

"It's great because we are a young business that's been running just 20 months."

Bridlington received national exposure as viewers watched Paul, 62, and Lou, 45, entertain their guests by taking them to attractions including the Spa and the harbour.

Paul said: "We were told our episode had the highest viewing figures of 2.2 million so it's great publicity. Bridlington is a fantastic town that can boast the refurbished Spa and the Spa gardens, the new seafront, Sewerby Hall and there's a lot of new shops opening.

"And I can say without any hesitation that we do the best Full English in East Yorkshire."

Despite coming third in the TV competition and attracting criticism from their guests, the couple believe the experience was worthwhile.

Paul said: "We didn't take it as seriously as some of the others who really wanted to win, when I suppose we should have.

"But it's still been great for business."
