Jealous boyfriend attacked partner in a rage, Leicester court told

A boyfriend attacked his partner "in a blind rage" and banged her head repeatedly on the floor, a court heard.

Jack Manley was unaware the 19-year-old was pregnant with his child when he beat her up.

He was sentenced to 12 months in custody on Friday.

Leicester Crown Court was told Manley (28) was in an 18-month relationship with the victim and was possessive of her.

After drinking with friends, he became jealous, wrongly believing she was interested in a love rival. In a fit of anger he took a taxi to her home in the Hinckley Road area of Leicester, on June 30 last year.

James Varley, prosecuting, said Manley attacked her when she opened the door, grabbing her and throwing her so she banged her head. Neither knew she was in the early stages of pregnancy at the time. He added that Manley went to the woman's bedroom and she heard him smashing her furniture.

Manley threw a drawer of her underwear out of the window and when she went to pick up the smashed drawer he kicked it, causing it to fly into her face.

She ran screaming to a neighbour's and he followed, kicking the outside garage door.

The victim, who is due to give birth next month, suffered pain to her upper body, bruising, grazing and cuts to her mouth and a cut head. The damage amounted to about 700.

Manley, of Bramble Way, Braunstone, admitted causing actual bodily harm and two counts of criminal damage.

Andrew Bolc, mitigating, said it was an isolated incident and Manley knew his behaviour was unacceptable and unwarranted.

He said: "He's thoroughly ashamed and remorseful. He accepts he has a jealous streak and felt insecure. That combined with alcohol led to him losing emotional self control."
