● Bus users are campaigning to save an early morning service from the South Bank to Hull.
Stagecoach bosses plan to scrap the 6.20am X1 Humber Flyer from Grimsby to Hull and the 7pm return service because it is too expensive to run.
But people who rely on it to get them to work and university are urging Stagecoach to make a U-turn on their decision.
Steve Wray, 31, an analytical chemist at Hull healthcare firm Reckitt Benckiser, saves 500 a month in fuel and bridge tolls by using the Humber Flyer. He said: "It is a ridiculous and ill thought-out decision. If we lose it, it will cost me 500 a month just to get to work. Everyone is feeling the pinch and this is something I and many others cannot afford."
Jon Donnelly, commercial manager for Stagecoach, said: "The cost of running the service outweighs what we get back. We are faced with increasing fuel costs like everyone. We are effectively looking at a 48-seater bus which carries about four to ten people in the mornings."
