Museum revs up for motor festival fun

Families and transport enthusiasts have visited a celebration of cars, trains and tractors.

More than 1,500 people passed through the doors of Snibston Discovery Museum, in Coalville, yesterday to see vintage cars, a Battle of Britain fly- past and demonstrations by the emergency services.

Visitors also had a chance to take a ride on a 1929 steam engine and get a close look at vintage vehicles from the Leicester City Fire brigade Museum Society.

A museum spokeswoman said: "It's been a fantastic day, and we've topped our visitor numbers from last year, which shows we're growing in popularity. There's been a really nice mix of people from families to groups of train and car enthusiasts.

"The fire service and police have been great, too. They've given us demonstrations on how they tackle chip pan fires and how to cut people out of cars.

"The kids have also been all over the police riot vans pressing buttons and exploring them."
