Police have named a 30-year-old man who died after the BMW in which he was travelling was involved in an early-morning accident.
Daniel Preston, of Braunstone, Leicester, died at the scene of the crash.
The accident happened on the A6 near the One Ash roundabout between Loughborough and Quorn, at 2.30am on Saturday.
A woman, who was also in the car, had to be cut free from the wreckage.
Police have said she is in critical, but stable, condition at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
A county councillor has called for safety on the road, the scene of previous fatal accidents, to be re-examined.
Last year county councillor David Slater, who represents Loughborough South, presented a 1,900-name petition to the Charnwood Highways Forum on behalf of Julie Holwell.
Her daughter Rebecca, 20, died in a crash on the same road in August 2008.
As a result, studies were conducted but they showed the road did not warrant safety measures.
Councillor Slater said he would like to see the road revisited. He added: "I shall examine this case very carefully and would like to see them look at the road markings around the junction and see if they cannot be changed to stop these kind of accidents."
The vehicle ended up on its side in the central reservation in the crash.
Firefighters from Syston and Loughborough took an hour to cut the woman free from the car.
Kegworth GP Nicholas Foster, who was called to the accident scene, said: "The woman was trapped in the car and I was able to give her pain relief as the emergency services worked away to release her. I gave her painkillers intravenously and was able to talk to her as she was conscious throughout. I was trying to calm her and to get information about her injuries. She was fully alert which is usually a good sign."
It is believed there was no other vehicle involved in the accident.
The road was closed until around 3pm on Saturday and diversions were set up.
In 2007, 20-year-old Neal Sleath, of Mountsorrel, died at the same spot.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the accident or thinks they may have seen the car before the accident happened, to call them on 0116 222 2222.
