Girls give it their all

TWO female singers have moved a step closer towards taking the Talent Trail title.

Summer and KT Starr were victorious in the third semi-final of the contest, which took place at the Inglemire Club in Inglemire Lane, north Hull.

Summer, 18, received a near perfect score from the judges with renditions of Turn Me On by Norah Jones, Forget You by Cee Lo Green and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by Carole King.

The Cottingham High School student, who reached the boot camp on ITV1's X Factor last year, is hoping to win the contest and use the 1,500 prize money to fund a drama school place in London.

She said: "It will be amazing to perform at Hull City Hall and if I could win the contest and fund drama school it would be the icing on the cake."

KT Starr, 29, has reached the Talent Trail final for the second year in a row – and is four stone lighter this time around.

The professional singer wowed the packed audience at the Inglemire Club with powerful performances of Someone Like You by Adele, Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler and Someone to Love by Queen. She said: "It was amazing to perform at Hull City Hall last year, but I wasn't happy with the way I looked and now I have done something about it.

"It will be nice to get back up on the stage, wear a dress and feel comfortable in myself. I can't wait."

Seven other acts gave great performances on the night, leading compere Dave Norman to say it was anyone's game to progress through to the next round.

The artists who missed out on a place in the final were Claire Crawshaw, 34, of north Hull; Simonie, 18, of North Ferriby; Georgia Roe, 16, of east Hull; Emily Foster, 24, of Hull city centre; Stephanie Sweeting, 19, of Castleford; Amanda Gallacher, 29, of west Hull; and Jenna Elise, 26, of west Hull.

This year's Talent Trail winner will receive a trophy, 1,500, studio time and a photoshoot at Topcolor. Second place will receive 750, while third place will receive 250.

KT Starr and Summer will join Sax Jax, Martin Clappison, Dan Furniss and Lillie Kerman in the final.

The final two places will be decided at tonight's fourth semi-final at the Freedom Centre in Preston Road, east Hull, starting at 8pm.

Nine acts will compete for the chance to perform on the Hull City Hall stage – Hollybeets, Compass, Marie Marie, Max Baystow, James Lent, Holly, Olivia Oxton, Ashleigh Taylor and Jessika-Mae.
