Motorists heading into Hull endured major tailbacks on the A63 this morning after a multiple-vehicle accident near the Humber Bridge.
At least four vehicles were involved.
For some, journeys from Brough to the city centre took more than an hour.
Traffic was moving slowly from the Welton junction by 7.45am, with vehicles were all but stationary in the North Ferriby area.
Roads running from the A63 were also blocked as motorists attempted to get around the accident.
Hundreds left the A63 at the Boothferry Road junction only to be met with heavy traffic caused by roadworks at the junction with Anlaby Park Road.
"It was a nightmare," a motorist told the Mail.
"I made the decision to come off at the Humber Bridge to try to nip through the city but it seems that many other had the same idea and it just caused traffic to back up.
"That together with the roadworks at the junction with Anlaby Park Road made for a not very pleasant commute this morning."
Earlier this morning, a westbound lane of the A63 was closed near Brough after a car overturned. The lane has since been reopened.
