SOLDIERS and civilians will rub shoulders in a fundraiser for servicemen and women injured in action.
People of all ages are lining up to take part in Driffield's first 5K fun run on May 8 in aid of the Help For Heroes charity.
Runners include a team of Gurkhas from the Defence School Of Transport at Normandy Barracks in Leconfield, near Beverley.
An appeal has also been launched for more runners to join the fun run, which could become an annual event if successful.
Former soldier Scott Watmuff, who helps people get fit for careers in the Armed Forces, is organising the fundraiser in May.
Mr Watmuff, 37, who works at Driffield Sports Centre, said: "Help For Heroes is a charity people like to support, especially with the situation in Afghanistan.
"People have been brilliant and more than 100 have already registered for the event, which is open to everybody.
"There is a wide range of participants, from a team of super-fit Gurkhas to people from my weight management class who are in their 60s and 70s and are going to walk it."
The police have allowed 250 places, with people paying 5 to take part, which would guarantee the charity at least 1,250.
But runners are also asked to obtain sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues, which could potentially bring in thousands of pounds.
Mr Watmuff, who served with the Duke Of Wellington's Regiment and now helps people improve their fitness in readiness for active service in the Armed Forces and emergency services, has won the support of East Riding Council, which runs Driffield Sports Centre.
The father-of-one, of Bridlington, said: "I'm very excited about the run. I have been fundraising for Help For Heroes for a while now and have done lots of stuff, but this is by far the biggest to date.
"This will be the first Driffield 5K and I hope people will join in the fun of the occasion and help me raise as much money as possible for a brilliant charity."
