In Brief

HULL: New research at the University Of Hull is looking at where obese people lose most weight and whether it reduces the stress on their muscular system or not.

The long-term aim is to determine what kind of exercise and how much of it would be the most beneficial as part of a weight loss programme.

Dr Tom O'Brien, of the university's department of sport, health and exercise science, is lead researcher.

He said: "Obese people tend to develop strong leg muscles, but relative to their weight, their muscles are still weaker than those of the average person. Exercise is already difficult for people who are clinically overweight but if there is muscle loss during dieting, then movement may still be demanding for the obese patient."

HULL: A new Hindu temple has opened in the city.

The former Central Masonic Hall has been bought by the Hull and East Riding Hindu Cultural Association.

Previously Hindus in East Yorkshire had to travel to Bradford or Birmingham or gather at various halls for religious needs.

The temple is now a focal point for religious and social activities for the community including pujas, bhajans, weekly prasad- bhojans, musical and dance performances and yoga workshops.

HULL: Residents are being urged to dust off their regal relics for the chance of a free carvery to toast the royal wedding.

The Lambwath in Sutton Road and the West Bulls in Bricknell Avenue are offering customers the chance to enjoy a free carvery.

The offer ends on Friday. To take advantage, take a commemorative royal wedding plate from a previous royal wedding to claim one free meal per plate.

Joe Bolton, manager at the Lambwath, said: "We wanted to commemorate the most talked about wedding of the year by offering customers a token of what we do best, a carvery."
