GOOLE: A woman is in a serious condition after being hit by a car while crossing the road.

The woman was walking across Stanhope Street in Goole yesterday when she was hit by a black Renault Clio.

She was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary with head injuries and her condition is being described by police as serious.

The crash happened at about 11.20am between the Coronation Street junction and Clock Tower roundabout.

The road was closed for several hours and police diverted traffic

BRIDLINGTON: A man has suffered swelling and bruising on his head after an assault in Bridlington.

The 23-year-old was walking along Tennyson Avenue at 12.35pm on Monday when he was thought to have been struck from behind, which caused him to fall to the ground.

The victim had to receive treatment for his injuries at Scarborough General Hospital.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail.

Detectives investigating the assault are keen to speak to two people who were sitting on a bench near to the bus stop on the Promenade who may have witnessed the incident.

DRIFFIELD: A motorcyclist who collided with a car is said to still be in a critical condition.

Pete Drury, 62, of Driffield, is due to marry his partner Carol Lewis later this year.

He was hit a car towing a caravan on the B1257 near Helmsley in North Yorkshire on Sunday.

Police said he suffered "very serious, life-threatening injuries" in the crash.

He was airlifted to the James Cook Memorial Hospital in Middlesborough, where he still remains.

EAST YORKS: A mum who set up the Echoes Foundation to help disabled children has been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Claire Stockton, of Hessle, set up the charity after her son Finley was found to have a brain disorder.

The charity created a multi-purpose resource centre at Gipsyville in west Hull, which supports families with children who have conditions including cerebral palsy, autism and Down's syndrome.

Mrs Stockton has been nominated for the honour in the Yorkshire Women Of Achievement Awards.

The ceremony takes place at Royal Armouries in Leeds on Friday, May 20.
