On the strength of six individual champions, Gulf hoisted its fifth consecutive district trophy Saturday evening at the Class A, District 8 meet in Brooksville.

The Buccaneers (233.5 points) easily outdistanced second-place Nature Coast (164) and the rest of the 11-team field, advancing 12 wrestlers to the region tournament next weekend.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class at district advance to the region meet.

Gulf had four repeat champions from last year: Anthony Ayers (130 pounds), R.J. O'Connor (160), Ladarious Jackson (171) and Jeff Kruse (285). Gulf's first-time district winners were Anthony Agazarm (103) and Friday Karr (189).

Jackson and Hernando's Zach Pritz had the top match of the tournament, needing three overtimes to decide their finals bout. The 2010 state champ maintained his undefeated record with a 2-1 decision.
