Riot police were called to a west Hull street after a man threatened to harm himself.
They were called to May Street, off Beverley Road, just before 1pm by a member of the public concerned for the safety of the man, aged in his 30s.
Five police cars and an ambulance arrived at the scene and the road was closed off.
Officers with riot shields managed to restrain the man, who was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary in an ambulance, with non-life threatening injuries.
