Police appeal after woman assaulted in Melton

A 23-year-old woman was indecently assaulted in Melton.

Police are appealing for information about the attack which happened on Sunday, January 6, at 2.40am.

The woman was walking along Leicester Road onto Victor Avenue. She took a shortcut through an alleyway that leads onto the railway track, towards the Tamar Road housing estate when she was approached by a man who grabbed her and indecently assaulted her. The victim managed to break free and run home.

The suspect is described as white, aged about 55 years old and of average build. He was wearing a dark coat, dark bottoms and spoke with a local accent.

Pc Michelle Preston said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who knows anything about the incident and would urge them to contact us."
