83% say pubs should be able to show foreign broadcasts of English football

A HUGE majority of people who voted in a poll on this website think pubs should be allowed to show foreign satellite broadcasts of English football.

Eighty-three per cent of those who took part were in favour changing the law to allow venues to show Premier League games via transmissions from abroad.

As reported, magistrates in Beverley fined the owners of the Weir Bar in Hessle 3,000 plus 3,000 costs for breaching competition law for showing football matches via satellite transmissions from Albania.

It can cost as much as 13,000 a year for pubs to install a full Sky TV package.

A change in the law to allow pubs to access cheaper foreign transmissions could reduce the revenues received by Premier League clubs from TV broadcasters.

● More than 680 people voted in the poll.
