In Brief

MOLESCROFT: Scouts from the 1st Molescroft Scout Group have planted trees around the parish council-run park and pavilion.

Community groups received free packs of saplings to plant as part of the Woodland Trust and Sainsbury's Active Kids project.

Molescroft Scouts had already painted the fence surrounding the park. As well as donating their saplings to the parish, they volunteered to do the planting.

The chairman of Molescroft Parish Council, Councillor Mike Hildyard, said "The parish council is continuing to develop links with young people and is very pleased that the scouts are willing to work with the council to contribute to the planned improvements.

Scout Leader Andrew Sharpe said: "This is a great opportunity for the scouts to complete work towards a badge and also do something for the benefit of the local community."

EAST YORKS: East Riding Council suspended rubbish bin collections over the Christmas and new year period.

No collections were made in the week between Christmas and new year. The bins were due to remain full for a further eight days so that, for instance, bins that should have been emptied on New Year's Eve, are due to be dealt with on Saturday, January 8.

Normal bin collections are due to resume on January 10.

BEVERLEY: The Friends Of East Riding Youth Orchestras held events before Christmas to raise funds for, among other things, a tour to Croatia.

Busking at Beverley Tesco raised 328 and 1,594 was collected in an all-day playing and bag-packing session at Morrisons.
