TAMPA — Receiver Andre Davis, a key member of Jefferson High's Class 3A state championship team, orally committed to USF, the highest-rated recruit in the Bulls' incoming class.

Davis, rated a four-star recruit and the No. 42 receiver nationally by Scout.com and a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and ESPN, is USF's first commitment this year from Hillsborough or Pinellas counties. He committed Saturday, joining Hollywood South Broward's Clavion Nelson, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive end who also considered Illinois and Kansas.

A post on Davis' Facebook page about joining USF: "The feeling is undescribable. … I just can't wait to get in there and work hard with my new family. We on our way to big things in the Big East."

Receiver has been a Bulls recruiting priority. One other receiver is committed, Punta Gorda Charlotte's Alex Mut, and A.J. Love and Sterling Griffin will return from injuries.

Davis, 6 feet 1, 180 pounds, also considered FSU, Miami, Rutgers, Texas Tech and West Virginia.

florida: Running back Mike Blakely, an early enrollee from Bradenton, is expected to have shoulder surgery Wednesday and miss spring practice.

lsu: Coach Les Miles turned down more money from Michigan, LSU Board of Supervisors member Stanley Jacobs said. Miles makes $3.75 million a year at LSU, and Jacobs said Miles said no to about $4.25 million and then a bigger offer.

Remember Nu'keese? Nu'keese Richardson, a UF commitment who switched to Tennessee then was dismissed in 2009 after he was arrested, is reportedly planning to enroll at Palm Beach State College and could end up at Kansas or Syracuse this season. The receiver also had brief stops at Hampton and Coffeyville (Kan.) CC.
