ST. PETERSBURG — Coach Patrick Doheny admitted he made some changes during practice, switching things up to give his Patriots a better chance against a team unbeaten in district play.

The moves paid off, as Pinellas Park shut out Northeast in the Class 5A-12 final 2-0.

One of the main moves included placing twins Kaleigh and Kassidee Davis in the midfield.

"I felt like if we can control the middle, we can win," Doheny said. "I told them to just keep smashing the net."

A shot by Kassidee Davis just cleared the crossbar in the first half. But only a minute or so later, sophomore Alyssa Stabil guided the ball into the left side of the net, past a diving Rachel Parker to put the Patriots ahead 1-0.

Later, it was Kaleigh Davis' turn to shine as she scored in the 13th minute of the second half to extend the Patriots' lead.

Northeast had a number of scoring chances, including a close-range opportunity that Patriots goalie Kayla Steacy rejected with around five minutes remaining in the first half.

The Vikings kept the ball in Pinellas Park's end for most of the second half, but Steacy kept making big saves, with three coming in the final six minutes.

Doheny was gracious toward Northeast after the game, while also savoring the moment.

"They're a fantastic team," he said. "But tonight was our night."
