BUFFALO, N.Y. — Michael Grabner scored twice and rookie goalies Nathan Lawson and Kevin Poulin combined to stop 36 shots as the Islanders' beat the Sabres 5-2 Friday.
Rick DiPietro sat with the flu.
Lawson started and stopped 10 shots in the first before leaving with a left knee injury sustained during a goal-mouth scramble. His status is unknown. Poulin then stopped 26 of 28 shots.
That was enough to beat Buffalo, which didn't look like a team that entered on a 7-2-1 roll.
Said Sabres left wing Nathan Gerbe: "It's embarrassing."
Game highlights: Jarome Iginla reached 20 goals for the 12th consecutive season (and 13th in his 14 NHL seasons) to help the Flames defeat the Stars 7-4. Dallas' team-record road win streak ended at eight. … Tomas Plekanec scored twice as visiting Montreal beat Ottawa 7-1. Montreal is 7-1-2 in its past 10.
Forsberg back: Former league MVP Peter Forsberg will practice with the Avs today to see if he is in shape for a return to the team. Forsberg, 37, hopes to make a decision afterward. He has played sporadically recently because of a troublesome right foot.
Around the league: Kings general manager Dean Lombardi was fined $50,000 for comments about league vice president Mike Murphy, who is in charge of goal reviews. He was upset about a Coyotes goal Wednesday that Murphy didn't overturn and suggested Murphy wouldn't give the Kings a favorable call because he once lost out on their GM job.
