ST. PETERSBURG — Cameron Brown scored all 16 of his points during the second half to help Cambridge beat Carrollwood Day 56-46 in the Class A, District 9 final on Saturday.
In the regular-season matchup, Carrollwood Day held Brown to nine points in a 47-45 victory. Saturday, Cambridge coach Scott Thompson complimented Brown for his unselfish play early, when he was used more as a decoy.
"We weren't prepared the first time they played that box-and-one," Thompson said. "(Saturday), we made them guard us man-to-man."
Turnovers helped put the Patriots (15-8) in a 14-point hole in the second quarter. But a short jumper by Matt Phillips sparked an 11-0 run that included consecutive layups by Adonis Welch and a Michael Filer 3-pointer.
The Lancers (19-6) led by three at halftime. Brown made their first two baskets of the third. Spencer Smith, who scored a game-high 22, had their next eight points to help build a 13-point lead.
Consecutive 3-pointers by Filer and Luke Hunter brought the Patriots to within 47-44 late. But Smith made four free throws, and Brown made a layup as time ran out to seal the victory.
Filer led the Patriots with 20 points.
