Howard's 39 too little vs. Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY — That nine-game winning streak seems like a distant memory.

On Thursday, the Magic simply could not defend anyone who wore a Thunder jersey, and it certainly didn't stop reigning NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant or up-and-coming point guard Russell Westbrook.

The Magic allowed the Thunder to make 56.4 percent of its shots and lost 125-124 on the road.

Although Dwight Howard scored 39, the Magic never slowed Durant or Westbrook. Durant scored 36, employing his quick release on his jumper to deadly effect, making 13 of his 17 shots from the field.

Westbrook used his size advantage, quickness and leaping ability to record his fourth career triple double, scoring 32 with 10 rebounds and 13 assists.

"There wasn't one possession all night that I liked our defense on," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Not one."

Game highlights: Kevin Love scored 35 as the Timberwolves kept the Wizards winless (0-19) on the road 109-97.

Anthony stakes: The Knicks are urging the Grizzlies to join a three-team deal that would send Memphis guard O.J. Mayo to Denver and the Nuggets' Carmelo Anthony to New York, ESPN.com reported. Thinking that Anthony will not sign a three-year, $65 million extension with the Nets, the Knicks are ramping up their efforts to get the Nuggets interested in a deal. So far, the Nuggets are not interested in the players the Knicks have offered.

James out: LeBron James was out of the starting lineup for the Heat's game in Denver late Thursday due to a sprained left ankle. The team said there was no major damage and James will more than likely try to play Saturday in Chicago..
